The Mughals appreciated music and almost all the rulers encouraged music in their court (Aurangzeb didn’t like music though most of the star pieces were composed in his time.)
Shah Jahan was fond of Musical instruments and the two most great Hindu music composers of the time worked in his court Jagannath and Janardhan Bhatta. Other great musicians also worked for the kings in rule like Tansen & Baz Badhur . During the Mughal period there was no notation for music and all of the music was passed on verbally. The music that was mostly sung is what we know and call as Hindustani music.
